SEBEKA – After a competitive first half, the Menahga women’s basketball team took control after the break to defeat Sebeka 68-33 in a Park Region Conference game on Friday January 7.
Three points from Maryn Pinoniemi and Lela Peterson, two lay-ups from Janie Tormanen, one lay-up and jumper from Janelle Hendrickson, and one lay-up on a steal from Peterson gave Menahga a 25-18 advantage in half-time.
The Braves led 25-20 before going 24-2 to take the lead. Pinoniemi’s six baskets, including two flying layups, along with a pair of 3-pointers and a flying layup from Peterson, made it 49-22. Two layups from Erica Tormanen, a pair of 3-points from Joie Koll, a 3-pointer from Addie Pinoniemi and off-flight lay-ups from Maryn Pinoniemi and Peterson crowned the victory.
the 17 points and five interceptions of Maryn Pinoniemi; Peterson’s 14 points, seven steals and five assists; and six rebounds each by Janie Tormanen and Amanda Lake helped Menahga go 5-0 in the conference and 9-1 overall.
Sebeka fell to 1-4 against the Park Region teams and 1-7 in aggregate.
